Whether you’re an artist, musician, cook, fashion designer, architect, interior designer, actor, dancer……..there’s a magical element in doing it. A part of yourself is in it. Why do we?
Because it feels good……brings joy to us and others……makes us feel proud……lights up the world.
My closest friend is a fantastic cook. Never did it professionally; he does it only because he loves to. Hosting a dinner party energizes him…..planning the menu….shopping for the food….sweating in the kitchen for two days…..serving and sharing. It’s his joy, the thing he excels at, what he’s known for.
Another good friend is a fabric artist. She makes these stunning wall hangings as pieces of art, like paintings, but made from fabric, a similar process to quilting. She doesn’t consider herself a professional artist, yet it is the thing that brings her joy. It’s what she’s known for.
To me, art is creating something from your own mysterious genius. Writing is more “creative” for me than playing violin. When playing violin, I’m reciting music written by a composer. They are the creator, I’m simply the narrator. Writing is something I bring from within, from thoughts, formed onto a page.
