Writing is about the easiest form of creativity to engage in. You can write by hand, on computer, even dictation can translate into print. Thoughts in the brain follow a path through to the hand and onto paper. It’s a proven psychologically beneficial process (aka “therapy”).

There are a bunch of kinds of writing, like stream-of-consciousness*, when you basically do a brain dump and whatever issues forth goes on the paper; poetry and prose, when your writing is mostly symbolic; fiction, which takes a huge amount of creativity; non-fiction too, while facts speak for themselves, you as a writer add your own style and expression.

Writing is, physically, just putting words on paper. But of all forms of art, I think it’s the one that evokes our imagination the most. Imagination = the process of forming images. Other art and creative forms are a feast for our eyes or ears, but writing engages the brains of our readers as well.

Writing is used in therapy for healing, working through difficulties, exposing subconscious thoughts.

What more potent way to self-expression is there than the written word? The story of your life, of others, or a created reality, is truly “mightier than the sword.” Case in point: yesterday’s release of Michael Wolff’s “Fire and Fury.” Whether you believe it’s fact or fiction, you rarely see such passion (good and bad) around a book. The power of written words!

Set aside a time period, start writing, and see what happens!

*I finally made a list of “Words I can’t spell.” Certain ones have plagued me my whole life. So I’m writing them down in Trello once and for all !!
